Question by bellaxluna18: What is a vocal piece from the baroque or contemporary period?

I have a college audition coming up for Temple University for entrance into their music therapy program, and they require I sing an Italian aria, and "An English song from the baroque or contemporary period." What exactly is this? Like, Handel? Any song suggestions? I'm a soprano.
I do study with a vocal coach, and I also asked my school's choral director. I was just looking for more ideas since neither were entirely sure what the university was looking for, since it is such a broad musical genre.

You should really consult your teacher as he or she will be more familiar with your vocal abilities and what pieces would be best suited for your voice. If you don't have a teacher now I strongly recommend you get one so that you will be taken seriously when you audition.

EDIT:
If your teacher is unfamiliar with the process of auditioning into college you should find another teacher who has experience in that area.
